PREVIOUS WEEKALL 2016 PICSNEXT WEEK

Where: Richmond, VA
Notes: The journey of photography for me is conveying a story or the traits of a particular species in a single still shot. Taking a two dimensional image and having it appear to be at full depth. A photo also captures a sense of movement in this motionless media. These attributes can give any photograph interest and appeal. Endless hours of watching and photographing birds in the backyard “BirdSpa” inspired this attempt to find a new image within the same old situation. Just after the bird begins to bath, it repeatedly drops its head down into the water, followed by its shoulders, back, wings and tail respectively. Once its head is back up there is most often a wing flap or two that send water spitting in all directions as the bird remains relatively stationary. When this scene is backlit, it really makes the airborne droplets glow. This splashing activity is my favorite thus far. THE BIRD SPA

The Simple Birdbath Alternative • DIY Installation Instructions and Parts List

Birds, like all other animals, prefer habitats that meet all their basic survival needs: food, shelter and WATER! They depend on water to condition their feathers for flight, to help maintain their body temperature, for hydration, and for hygiene. A landscape with a consistent, clean running water source will attract both a greater number of species and a higher count of birds. This especially applies to the many migratory and insect-eating species too. The Bird Spa is a low maintenance water feature, designed specifically for birds. Has ATTRACTED 80 DIFFERENT SPECIES at a single location in central Virginia!
