PIC OF THE WEEK: 12/19/16 • PREVIOUS WEEKALL 2016 PICSNEXT WEEK

Where: Richmond, VA
Notes: Having this beautiful Bluebird drop by The Bird Spa just before the end of the year was a pleasant surprise. As the busyness of the holiday season marches forward, this visit was a good reminder to slow down and stop in appreciation for the glory of nature that surrounds us all. Such a simple bird, with spectacular coloration. Bluebirds are a reminder of troubled times gone by, since their recovery in recent years from nesting cavity competition with invasive-foreign species such as the European Starling and House Sparrow. Their numbers have increased due to the continued efforts of Bluebird House “landlords,” people and organizations who help clean and maintain their birdboxes. As the end of another years whizzes by, so goes the struggles and challenges of yesterday, the efforts of today march in, and with it comes new hope for tomorrow.

THE BIRD SPA

The Birdbath Alternative • DIY Installation Instructions and Parts List

Birds, like all other animals, prefer habitats that meet all their basic survival needs: food, shelter and WATER! They depend on water to condition their feathers for flight, to help maintain their body temperature, for hydration, and for hygiene. A landscape with a consistent, clean running water source will attract both a greater number of species and a higher count of birds. This especially applies to the many migratory and insect-eating species too. The Bird Spa is a low maintenance water feature, designed specifically for birds. Has ATTRACTED 80 DIFFERENT SPECIES at a single location in central Virginia!
