Notes: I have often found that I do not have to go far from home to find a variety of birds. As fall turns to winter, the waterfowl return from their northern breeding grounds and new species appear. This winter plumage male Ruddy Duck was part of a flock of eight "Ruddys" that had visited a local lake for a couple of days during migration. He seemed to be on watch-duty while the rest of the group napped not far off shore.
