Northern Neck Arts Festival - Best in Show 2025
Thanks to the judges at the inaugural Northern Neck Arts Festival for this tremendous honor. This award was a real surprise considering the many other talented artists exhibiting at this new venue. I try to participate in new shows whenever my schedule allows, because I believe it is important to help start new cultural events. There are already plans to have this festival again next year, so keep an eye out for announcements next spring. Special thanks to Janice Jones at J-Art for her support of my work over the years and for all she does to promote the arts in Virginia's river relm.
"A longtime participant in J-ART-sponsored events, Bob Schamerhorn has earned the top honor for his phenomenal nature photography. His remarkable talent lies in capturing wildlife in rare and breathtaking moments: a sea turtle gliding through shimmering water, a fawn peeking through tall grass, or a pelican cutting through the mist of a crashing wave. His images showcase technical mastery and a deep reverence for the natural world." - NNAF

Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce • Visitor's Guide 2025
100TH ANNIVERSARY - Roundup, Swim and Auction
Special thanks to the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce for this tremendous honor! What a surprise to open the 2025 Visitor’s Guide and find one of my photos on the back cover spread announcing the 100th Anniversary. This capture happened just after sunrise at the start of the 2023 pony roundup. I had just suggested to my friend driving the boat, that it would be cool to get the ponies and the lighthouse both in the same photo. Moments later, this group broke away from the main herd and ran the opposite direction. As they approached the end of the grassy peninsula, they suddenly stopped. We soon caught up to them and the lighthouse just came into view as we approached. I only had two clicks of the camera’s shutter before they ran off again and this one was the best. The stallion in the back of the bunch is Windy’s Beach Boy, he is a Great Great Great Grandfoal of Misty’s.
